Who is Siobhan Coady?
Siobhan Coady was raised understanding that “you make a living by what you get, a life by what you give,” – Sir Winston Churchill. Her parents instilled in her a sense of community and the need to be accountable to others.
Siobhan is the Member of the House of Assembly for the District of St. John’s West, Minister of Natural Resources and Deputy Government House Leader. She previously served as Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. She also serves as Chair of the Economic Policy Committee, and a member of Treasury Board, the Policy and Planning Committee and the All-Party Committee on Democratic Reform.
From 2008 to 2011, Siobhan served as the Member of Parliament for the Riding of St. John’s South–Mount Pearl. She was the Liberal Critic for Treasury Board, a member of the Industry Committee, and Vice Chair of the Operations Committee. Siobhan was also the Chair of Newfoundland & Labrador Liberal Caucus, Chair of the Liberal Biotechnology Caucus and a member of the Leader’s Economic Advisory Committee.
Siobhan is an entrepreneur and a business leader. She most recently served as President of Novocom Inc., an international resource procurement company with partners in Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore.
She previously owned and operated businesses as diverse as Newfound Genomics, a biotechnology research facility (successfully sold in 2007); The Clinical Trials Centre, a medical research company; and Bonaventure Fisheries, a fish harvesting company.
Siobhan is very active in her community. She is an active member of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee. She previously served as a Director of the Children’s Wish Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is also past Campaign Chair of the Canadian Red Cross and has volunteered with a number of other organizations including the Lung Association of Newfoundland & Labrador, the Gathering Place, and the Canadian Cancer Society to name a few.
Commitment to Leadership
Siobhan is a Past Chair (2003) and Governor of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Past President of the St. John’s Board of Trade (1993). She is also a Past Chair of the Regional Economic Board and the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame. She previously served on the Board of Genome Canada, the Public Policy Forum, the St. John’s International Airport Authority, The Genesis Centre, the Atlantic Innovation Council, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Newfoundland, Compute Canada and the Institute of Corporate Directors St. John’s.
Siobhan is an alumna of Memorial University, Oxford University, and the University of Toronto. She is an accredited director (ICD.D) of the Institute of Corporate Directors and an Accredited Public Relations Professional (APR).
